Stokes, English Vernacular Script, ca 990–ca 1035, Vol. 2 (PhD Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2006)
This was written in a round, forward-leaning script with a relatively thick pen but with little ink. Caroline a was used, but the single-compartment form is found in æ with an angular top and a low and rounded hook. Round c was used, and the back of d is straight, moderately long, and angled at about 45°. The tongue of f is short and straight, and the hook branches from about mid-height. The top of g is not clearly visible even in the manuscript, but the mid-section is rounded, and the tail open but vertically compressed. The shoulders of m, n, and r all consist of thin rising strokes which turn smoothly into thick vertical down-strokes. Only low s was used, but the round hook rises above cue-height. There is only one occurrence of þ in the text, and no scope for ð.
