Stokes, English Vernacular Script, ca 990–ca 1035, Vol. 2 (PhD Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2006)
This text was added to the top of the page, part of which has now been lost. The script is extremely small, whether because it was written this way or because the parchment has shrunk around the edges, and much is hard to read. The hand is quite regular, and the scribe held his pen quite flat. Ascender and descenders are long, the former with small wedges or without decoration, and the latter straight. The back of a is fairly straight, and the body is fairly wide and written with a single separate stroke. A similar but more rounded form was used for æ, the eye of which is small and the lower curve longer. The back of d is fairly short and can be horizontal or angled at about 45°; in both cases it is vertical-tipped. Round e is found, the tongue short and angled up, and the hook round. The tongue of f is long and somewhat concave up, and the hook is deeply split. The top of g is flat, the mid-section starts at the left of the top-stroke, drops more or less vertically, then turns across to the right, and the tail curves into a closed rounded loop. The shoulder of h is fairly rounded. The upper curve of k seems to be closed in a small loop but is difficult to discern. The top of 7 is short, slightly concave up, and is very high when following a punctus.
