Stokes, English Vernacular Script, ca 990–ca 1035, Vol. 2 (PhD Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2006)

This gloss was written with a very thick pen but with insufficient or improperly prepared ink, so that parchment often shows through the middle of strokes. The size and weight is similar to those of the main hand, and the gloss was written on the line of the text. Round e was used, with a long straight rising tongue. The shoulder of r is quite rounded, and the descender bulges left, is longer than minims, and lacks any approach-stroke or wedge. The back of ð is relatively short and turns back to the right, and the through-stroke is long and straight.
